Born in the Bronx and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Jeanette Rodriguez has always been engaged in art. At age 11 Jeanette attended Philippa Schuyler Middle School for the Gifted and Talented, where she discovered her passion for drawing and painting. Later at the High School of Art & Design in New York City, she developed her skills in illustration. She then majored in illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. Ms. Rodriguez is an award-winning artist who has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions nationally. She is the Founder of Soul Painting, a workshop that helps students tap into their intuition. She loves creating art and sharing the process of making art with others.
.
After spending over twenty years as a graphic designer, Jeanette returned to using her hands in a more traditional form by experimenting with various mediums such as painting, clay, and jewelry design before falling in love with Alcohol Inks. She later became a teaching artist by invitation.
Jeanette has experience working with all age groups in both communities and via Zoom. She taught in Mayer, Arizona, and the Big Island of Hawaii. Upon returning to New York, she began teaching Soul Painting in the Hudson Valley area. In her Soul Painting workshop, Jeanette introduced a playful art form of meditation. This technique allows students to experiment with wet paper and drops of concentrated watercolors within a circle.
Rodriguez's paintings have been inspired by nature. The ever-changing and peaceful energy of nature; from the transformation of luminous fall colors to the silence of winter, is what Jeanette strives to capture in her art. As an artist, she finds that painting helps her release stress; it has assisted her in healing during rough times in her life. She's learned to live in the moment and trust the process. She shares her creative teaching style with the same motivation and enthusiasm to help students release stress and help them discover their inner-artistic gifts.
Jeanette spent several years as Curator at the Front Street Gallery in Patterson, New York; where she dreamt up exhibition themes such as “Windows of My Soul”, “In the Stillness of Trees”, “Flow”, “Reflection” and “Red”, to name a few. She has been a member of ArtEast Dutchess for nine years. She serves as the Art Director for the Friends of the Kent Public Library. She is an artist member of the Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden. She participates as an artisan at the Pawling Farmers Market selling her handmade Dichroic glass pendants, jewelry and Alcohol Ink paintings. Today, due to Covid Jeanette continues to teach via Zoom workshops in Alcohol Ink, and Mandalas Dot-painting with an emphasis on meditation.
